Thomas B. Goode
Thomas Goode is a partner and one of the founders of Goode, Hemme & Peterson. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Goode was involved in real estate development, mortgage banking and commercial brokerage, including serving as Vice President/Operations of a real estate development firm and a management consulting firm. His “real world” experience, combined with his legal background, makes him a valuable advisor to his real estate and business clients, who appreciate both a pragmatic and practical approach to their complex and frequently unique legal issues. With a sincere concern for the escalating legal costs in today’s economy, Mr. Goode works tirelessly to provide his clients with the best possible service for a reasonable fee. He is exceptionally skillful at finding creative solutions to solve legal problems promptly, thus avoiding long protracted disputes which only serve to increase costs.
Mr. Goode is a specialist in Landlord/ Tenant law. This area of the law is highly regulated with legal landmines at every turn. An in-depth knowledge of the applicable law is critical to successful representation of landlord and tenants alike.
Whether negotiating a lease, analyzing complex lease language which frequently has long-term important implications for clients, or representing a landlord or tenant in an eviction proceeding, Mr. Goode consistently achieves recognition and appreciation from his clients for a job well done.
Mr. Goode was at the forefront of today’s housing crisis and has counseled hundreds of homeowners on their alternatives when faced with a foreclosure including early adoption of the short sale mechanism as a viable alternative to foreclosure. Mr. Goode has given seminars designed to educate attorneys and real estate brokers on the nuances of the short sale process.
Mr. Goode earned his law degree from Western State University in 1985 and a BA from the University of Notre Dame. His study of law was distinguished by the American Jurisprudence Award for Contracts and selection to the Law Review. Mr. Goode is a member of the State Bar of California and the San Diego County Bar Association. His laudable contributions to the community of San Diego include having served as legal counsel for prominent children’s charities and chairing major fundraisers for the local chapter of Cystic Fibrosis. He has also served as Founding Chairman of the Board for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, Inc., an organization that provides reconstructive plastic surgery at no charge for indigent deformed children. Additionally, Mr. Goode has served as legal counsel to and chaired other local non-profit boards including San Diego Child Abuse Prevention Foundation and Notre Dame Club of San Diego. Presently, Mr. Goode serves as a volunteer judge for San Diego Teen Court, a diversion program for first time juvenile offenders. In his role, Mr. Goode serves ably as an advocate to teens based on the principle of “restorative justice”.
Mr. Goode is a former U.S. Army Officer of distinction (established in top three percent service-wide for grade), and received extensive training in the design and implementation of military-oriented training programs as an Operations Officer for an Intelligence Company and as a Company Commander. His active duty tour also included extensive involvement with high-level, classified signal intelligence culminating in award of the Meritorious Service Medal.
